It's scrapped now, and I miss the klunky little thing. Remove the MF assembly and check the sensor arm behind that as well. Anyone have any idea where to go from here? Here's a page that has pictures of the separation and feed rollers on a 4000 series printer.

No more paper jams! Aside from the paper size guide settings sometimes being a little loose, this pcb can often be the cause. I'll have to give it a try. Flip it to the gear side (the left side) and press inwards on the fuser tab to make sure it is fully clicked in place, as shown below.
